Mamma, already the end of May? Time flies... Anyway, I L.O.V.E (mid)nights walks and I'm really happy that my fellow comrade, Julia, is into it too 🩵 It's a time when listening is more sought than seeing and when walking long distances don't seem that hard :) So, I think it's time to say goodbye to this rainy but colorful May :)
Se vidimo! 🩵

Hey! What's up? May arrived as fast as the hot weather in Slovenian Summer. In a week we planted watermelons and pumpkins, harvested our first baby carrots and ate the sweetest strawberries in earth (I might or might not be exaggerating a bit haha). We went for a concert in Cersak and we spent an amazing evening dancing and making some friends, it's incredible how much I've missed live music and some lovely company. This month we made some pesto out of nettle, garlic, olive oil and salt... I must admit that even if I'm a bit old school with the pasta I enjoyed a lot my fideos tirabuzón with homemade farm-style pesto ;) I don't know if I told you about it, but I love my birthday... As my grandmother would say, bithdays are to make you remember that there's nobody like you in this world, and that you are unique and special. That's exactly how I felt on May 30th this year, full of love and care. My friend Aldi came to visit and made me an unusual cake with two things that I really like: pancakes and yogurt :) And everybody here gave me the best present I could ever ask for, their presence. I'm super gratefull. I hope your May was as nice as mine, or better (if that's possible). Sending you love! <3 On the first of May there is a bank holiday where bonfires are lit and people gather around them. I was in Ptuj, a charming town where there was a concert and a huge bonfire: One weekend we decided to go all out and go with our new partner to a rock concert where we didn't have high hopes for fun but it ended up being a lot of fun. We were literally in the middle of nowhere. And finally, we could sing... In the middle of the month I was able to see my sister, we planned to meet again in Budapest, a city I fell in love with. Despite the fun times, the hard work on the farm required perseverance, discipline and commitment. This was a rewarding day of work, arranging the greenhouse to house sweet potatoes.
The following videos are the definition of feeling at home (even though none of us were) In short, together we created a home... The month ended with a last getaway to Croatia. We visited a beautiful national park (Plitvice) that, although there were too many tourists, I enjoyed a lot.
Zdravo! I am Helenka and I came in the beggining of May to join the super team in Ekopot. I am from Czech republic but I lived for the past 10 years in Andalucía, Spain. Step by step I started to discover and enter a little bit in the agroecological movement and I've decided to get deep in it! So, here I am, full of energy, excitement and will to learn with every cell. My main interests are seed saving and processing..but, let's see what are the next months going to bring! Already in May, I've entered in the wheel of work, directly to weeding baby carrots, thining apples and taking care of the hazelnuts! Did you know that in apples from one bud there are five flowers and from every flower one apple? So it is five apples from every bud! Wow. Elderflower sirup? That's been a while I've done, so lets try! My grandma's recipe is: 3l of whater, 5-6 elderflowers, 1 lemon and sugar..and let it for 10 days to be ready. Oh, yea, clean veeeery well the container, if not, life can appear and..you can have imagine the disaster.
For long, friends of mine recommended me to visit Plitvice lakes, a national reserve in Croatia. Saying that it was *breathtaking*. That, for them, it's one of the most beautiful sights in the world.
And you know what ? They were right. In April some beautiful little animals put aside their shyness and started to visit us to welcome us to their home
This month I was lucky enough to strengthen my relationship with Aurèlie. We went on excursions together several times and I found in her a sweet, funny and confidant friend - Hike to our hearts -It was time for our arrival training, we went to the south of the country to spend a week together with other volunteers from all over the country. It was an intense week, full of emotional ups and downs, deep reflections and very good food 🤤. There I was able to connect with other volunteers and also exchange interesting opinions and experiences. I reflected on my goals, broadened my future perspectives and gained valuable tools for professional and personal growth. I met wonderful people, with whom I hope that life will bring me together again one day :)
And here you can see how tired we were from traveling so much (in the botanic garden)
