Zdravo everybody! As humans we are taught maaany stuffs in our lives. People tell you stories about you and about the world all the time, even when you don't want to hear... First your parents and your closer family, later on your teachers and schoolmates, and if you're lucky you'll hear stories from different people through all your life. I'm sure you're asking where do I want to go with this hahah experiences like volunteering are about RE-learning stories, add some side stories from others to your own life, get to know realities and ways of doing that are completely different of what you're used to, but more than a RE-learn I'd say it's an UN-learning experience, since we believe and learn as true 100% of the stories people told us, we are setted to act and respond in some specific ways. My journey here in Slovenija has been (until now) all about deconstructing and re-building, that's why I attached this song down here, the name of the song is "Desaprender" -> "Unlearn"... Hope you have a good day :)

[don't come after me about the title -it's written in Corsican, not in Italian :)]
For the next few days, we continued hiking around the Dolomites. Every view was breathtaking (et je pèse mes mots) and each day brought a unique experience -from doing a bit of scrambling and walking next to the edge of the mountain for hours to just enjoying an easier path during our rest days. One valley can really be different from the next -ranging from a 'classic' valley, with a river and forested sides, to one that looks like the valleys of Wales (with only short green/brown grass/moss) to rocky mountains. I think that even if you spend at least two weeks in the Dolomites each year for an indefinite amount of time, you're still going to find new challenging paths, new astonishing views and new enchanting and hidden treasures ✴️
It's now time to close my September post... what a weird but full of adventures month 👀
Se vidimo! ✨ The big day is here! So, after a bit of time, sun, warm, rain, daylight, moonlight and nature magic the big day is here! Let's harvest the sweet potatoes. First we need to take the green part out, not an easy task but with some strong hands and experience, we can do it! If we lived in Ghana, we could use these green parts - the leaves - to plant new sweet potatoes for the next harvest. But in our weather conditions, we need to wait again until later spring. The curious part is, that all the potatoes are, of course, underground, so we can't see them before starting digging. The treasure hunting was very very successful! The variety of shapes and sizes is amazing, we can appreciate the diversity in every second and with every new sweet potato. There are no two same!
Hey!
August was a super intense month, and the main things I've learned were related to this beautiful sign I found a couple of months ago in a hostel. Hope it gives you some guidance, if only everybody followed this simple and lovely rules... Se vidimo! It's already the end of August, which means that one of my favourite seasons is about to end -maybe not according to the dates but we can already feel the autumnal changes coming at night... Until now, summer has been, for me, synonymous with holidays, hot sun, hours on sandy beaches, busyness and enjoyment. Unfortunately, here, I couldn't spend time on Slovenia's beaches but I enjoyed the various lakes the country has! I usually really like spending time under the hot sun but when you're working with +30°, the excitment is a bit lower 😅💦.
In the castle, you can find a lot of different rooms -some creepier than others 😅. From historical ones to a musical and instrumental display area or even one full of weapons. By itself, the castle is already grandiose and full of history and I can only recommend it! :) I just wanted to close this post with another picture from the Mother Nature Card Deck that brings me peace and motivation. Even though it looks like we're alone 'against' the powerful forces of Nature, in the end, we will find our place and be one once again 🩵
Not everything during the volunteering must be work, right? I really, but really enjoy the village parties. It has such an amazing vibe, that I just love it. I know, for a foreigner it is a bit more fun, but still. It is amazing all the people together just celebrating life. I was super excited about the Saint Mary, because it is the saint of Jarenina and I was expecting a bit of a celebration. Silly me! It was a small very chill gathering, nothing to see with my hopes. I was almost accepting an August without a village party..but then it came. The TRACTOR RACE. My hopes went back to life and I was looking forward towards this event. Did not know what to expect and very excited. So, Saturday came and we went with the volunteering team to see the show.
But fine, so it does not seem that August was only this day.. August is one of the most abundant month for me. The summer crops are on fire and very crazy. The heat is still there but the night is letting you know that the Christmas is coming step by step. I love Augusts. The intense energy of the nature, all the gifts and the craziness is somehow stressful and fulfilling at the same time.
Hello! It's been several days now since I returned to Jarenina, but I can’t forget what I experienced last weekend... I really enjoy listening to music in general, from traditional Corsican songs (paghjelle), country, orchestra, and pop to hard metal -Sabaton 4 life! 😎. It gives me either minutes or hours of peacefulness and tranquility -while enjoying the structure of the song and the unique quality of the singer's voice- or I use the music as a foundation to imagine stories in my mind 🌟. The concerts I've attended in my life have mostly been village parties in Corsica. But a concert from a 'mainstream' artist? A dream finally came true! 😍
I just loved it, from start to finish... It was three hours of sweating in the late summer, jumping, and losing our voices with 60k fellow neighbors! As for him, he could still sing on tune while running and jumping -even after several hours. I really don’t understand how they do that; are they even human? Anyway, I’ll definitely attend more concerts in the future. The atmosphere was perfect, and the music was just flowing freely through my body -and it was awesome to experience that 💆🏼♀️🎶 Bye! :)
After a relaxing, sleepy afternoon under the trees by the lake, it's time to visit Vintgar Gorge! It's a gorge located in Triglav National Park; you're following a river and various waterfalls for less than 2km. Easy walk but it can get pretty crowded... Anyway, let's just go at our own pace and enjoy the faces and sounds of Nature - stark colour contrasts, rushing or strolling water flow, bird chirping, leaf symphonies and the aquatic element breaking and reverberating against rocks and itself. During this weekend, we enjoyed the company of each other the best we could - walking, swimming, laughing together until the very end of the day 🩵 Se vidimo!
Oh potato, sweet potato! Aren't you just amazing? But..how do you even grow? So, first let's prepare the ridges very rich in compost on the base on the winter bed of the sheeps. Some shovels, muscles, a tractor and a few litres of sweat. Aaaand after one morning, here we go! The next step is to cover the ridges to maintain the warmth that the sweat potato needs and as well to complicate the weeds to grow there. And welcome sweat potatoes! After almost two months we can appreciate the beautiful flowers! And after the flowers?
To be continued... Hey! Hope everything it's going great :) The very first days of July were pretty intense, we had our Mid-Term Training and it involved deep convos, sharing and putting names to our feelings, meeting new (amazing) people, and hiking around Slovenija for a week. I'm sure there's an explaination for it, but while walking my toughts seemed more light and it was easier to identify them. It was a relief to have people around to share the experience and to talk to, I've made some friends and I'm surprised of how much I need and I love to be surrounded by people, it lifts me up and it gives me energy, tho this is not the first time I have this revelation hahaha I'll be forever grateful to Stasa, Jaka and Vanja, they were a huge support for me and for the other volunteers in the process of finding a little bit of ourselves during the hike and on being a shoulder, a smile and an ear when necessary.... All in all, we ended up in the sea, eating some pizza and enjoying some free time, I must say there was no better way to spend a Mid-Term.
