During the harvest of our veggies, fruits or nuts we often encounter some that have different shapes than the others. I want to use this moment to share with you some of the most curious encounters that we had this year :)

Ever since we moved to the orchard, our after-work cooking sessions in the kitchen got longer and longer. Having a lot of space outside the kitchen, we formed in our heads the idea of building a small herbal garden with our favourite herbs, that we could use for our meals. Quickly, we made a small drawing of what we imagined and without a lot of problems we found some wood that we could use for our project.
With the knowledge in woodworking that we acquired in our time at the farm, we were able to build a wooden box for our herbs. We filled it with some compost and earth from the farm and put our favourite plants inside. After that, we were enjoying a lots of dishes and especially salads with our own herbs, what always made them a little more special! Especially the basil felt very comfprtable next to our kitchen and grew bigger everyday.

As a personal project for my volunteering, my plan was to build a wooden game. In Germany we call it „Wikingerschach“ or „Kubb“. It is a fun game for outside, that you can play with almost the whole family. The main goal is to throw wooden sticks onto the wooden figures of the opposite team. So all you need is some good aim!

The goal for my personal project was to make my own game with a personal touch. My plan was to burn some drawings onto the wood. I decided to go for a farm-related topic and drew different kinds of weeds onto the wood. It reminded me of our daily struggle against the weeds at the farm and it seemed like a fun version of the game, which I then called “Weeds agains Volunteers”.
